10 Great Communication Tips

Everyone is destined to be a communicator. We are a social being and since we were born, we have been sending out messages both verbal and non-verbal all the times, even when we are sleeping.

As we grow up, some people communicate better, more charmingly than others and the rest of us can only wonder if it is a given. Lo and behold that it is not! Great public speaking ability is a trait that can be developed. Here’s 10 great tips to improve your communicating skills.

#01 Practice
Having knowledge as a tool can only go as far as how frequent you sharpen it. Practice can overcome your limitation and certainly shape your way of communicating to become more effective and clearer. A great public speaker have to experience public speaking performances before the process can shape him/her to become one.

#02 Listening
It takes two to tango and so does in communicating. Record your speech practice session and listen to the playback several times while taking down some notes on ways to improve your speech from the audience perspective.

#03 Humility
We all make speaking mistakes, even over a familiar topic. So, don’t be afraid to ask the audience if you are saying a word properly or if you are talking about a matter accurately. Make a joke about it and let it become a good ice breaker and your benefit to win the crowd.

#04 Eye Contact
When communicating, we are constantly sending out messages both verbal and non-verbal. Having a proper eye contact with the audience means that you are confirming your communication to them.

#05 Humor
Slip in some jokes, and use casual/slang terminologies here and there in your speech. This will lift the tension and boredom. That way, the audience will be able to connect with you easier and feel that you are approachable, and as human to them.

#06 Interaction
Invite them to participate in your speech. Let them tell you what they think over a certain topic, but keep the inputs moderated. Live interaction can boost attention and you’ll definitely get your message across.

#07 Rehearse
When holding the microphone, just like a painting at an exhibition, you are technically being display as the center of attention and everything about you will be critiqued. Rehearse your speech over and over again in front of a mirror can help correct the stress areas of your pitch and voice tone.

#08 Smile
A smile is so much like eye contact. When speaking in front of an audience with your smile, you put them at ease. Smile is also contagious and help you express the things you are saying better.

#09 Learn From The Best
Try to attend different kinds of social events regularly. You can observe the way different public speakers’ style and study how they tackle certain sensitive issues.

#10 Preparation
Write your points down on index cards clearly and larger than usual. You’ll be able to read it better and help keeping your natural posture intact. Having your notes handy is surely a life saver when you are having a blank-out.
