Tell us about you.
I’m a university student based in Nottingham, England studying branding and advertising. Along with my passion for design, one of my main hobbies is photography.
When was the first time you fell in love with photography? And why?
That would have to be when I was 16 and was hiking in the Austrian Alps back in July 2009. I was blown away by the scenery but all I had was a small Nikon digital camera. Despite this, I still took photographs to document the beautiful land around me. Even though the photographs didn’t turn out the way I would have hoped, I still liked the results I got. Ever since that point I have become obsessed with photography and it has grown to become a big part of my life.
Where are you located now? Do you wish to be somewhere else at this moment, instead?
I am currently located in Nottingham, England. At the moment I am quite happy with where I live but later on in life my dream is to move to New York, America.
What makes your works stand-out or different from other photographers?
Everything has been done in photography, it has become a lot harder to stand out and be unique. I don’t think that I stand out any more than your average photographer. Because I do photography as a hobby, the main person I am trying to please is myself. If I like my photographs then that is the main thing.
Have you heard/visited www.somethingwelike.com before? Do you have any inputs to make it better?
If I am honest, I have never heard of this website. But after being contacted about this I took a look round and I love it. My only suggestion would be to promote the site more. Utilize your Facebook and Twitter accounts to gain more exposure.
How does working professionally differ from being an amateur in your opinion?
I can’t really answer this question as I am not a professional photographer. I have thought about trying to become a professional but it is very hard to make a successful living off it. For this reason I am going to stick to being an amateur photographer, taking photos as a hobby.
If you could meet w/ any artist (one) past or present, whom would it be?
I would love to meet with Zsolt Zsigmond who is a Hungarian photographer who specializes in HDR panoramic photographs. He always has and always will be one of my biggest inspirations (http://realitydream.hu/ & http://realitydream.deviantart.com/).
Who (or what) is your biggest influence?
My biggest inspirations are the places that I visit. If I can find some beauty in a place then I feel like I have to document that beauty in a photograph.
What do you wish for this new year?
I just wish to keep visiting more stunning and beautiful places that I can photograph.
Do you have a style that you relate to the most?
I don’t have a particular style in my eyes but my main interest in photography is landscape, cityscape and waterscape.
Can you offer any advice on how to build-up a portfolio / ‘getting your foot in the door’ for our readers wishing to start a career in this line of photography?
My main advice would be to utilize the use of the internet. Facebook, & Twitter are both great social media sites to advertise your work on. Along with that I would also suggest uploading to work to various photography websites such as DeviantArt & 500px.
