Your Full Name
Andreea Alexandra Retinschi
Tell us about you
I started photography without any other intention than to have photographs of kittens, dogs and pretty landscapes. After a few years I started liking people and after many more years I actually got decent at photographing them.
If you have a bachelor degree/education background; what is it?
I have a bachelor in Photography and a degree in Media Studies.
Where are you located?
What do you do when you are not producing photography?
Spending too much time on the internet or having a beer with friends.
What drove you to become a photographer?
Developing film in the darkroom. It’s creation at its finest.
How do you promote/sell/showcase your work?
I’m still waiting for a latent PR part of me to wake up and fix my in-existent marketing skills.
Do you work better at night or in the morning? Why?
Always at night, my brain rejects mornings and mornings reject my brain.
What is your strength as a photographer compared to others in the industry?
Possibly my perfection obsession.
Who is an photographer that you look up to? Why so?
I admire many photographers, for different reasons, i was never really able to pin-point one. I probably try to forget their names as soon as I discover them because I’m humbled by how much talent and what a vision some of them do.
What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
It makes it easier to reach audiences that were previously difficult, if not impossible to reach. Definitely a benefit. Downfall: image thieving. But any good thing has to have a downside.
If you can only shoot one object for the rest of your life, what object would that be? Why?
Does Adriana Lima count as an object? For obvious reasons.
How does the global economic recession affecting the industry, or the least affecting your business/ work?
Photographers have definitely been affected by the recession because when people are looking at their budget, photography of any kind is easily scratched out.
What is your motto in life?
I’m usually an encyclopedia of quotes, but I cannot find one to fit my life anymore.
Name 3 of your favorite (art) books/ magazines.
I don’t follow art magazines. I am not familiar with any Romanian ones and foreign ones are hard to find and very expensive.
What do you like the sound of? Why so?
Thunder and rain. It makes me feel alive. Definitely not birds in the morning, they remind me it’s very late and i need to go to bed.
