Speak Out Your Art

arisu_nomura_interview
about: ARISU NOMURA

Hmmm, I’m not sure what to say about me… I try to be really private and low profile… I’m shy but i can be extroverted mostly around people i trust in or that are fun to be with. I love art books like Taschen, totally love Taschen lol. I also like swimming a lot, my favorite season is winter. I prefer to be called just Arisu (and this is not my real name by the way).

If you are represented by an artist management company or have an affiliation or own a production company for your art products, what company is it?
I am not in any agency at the moment, I signed with Cato design but I believe it expired. i am associated with 3rdthought, raster and CreativeStem. 3rdthought is a sort of association of artists to promote us, but i have no contracts with anyone. I don’t sell any products at the moment beside my website for anyone interested.

arisu_nomuraWhere are you located?
Portugal

What do you do when you are not producing artwork?
I play… (lol bad i know!) but it’s only lately. I usually take photos or go to some parties with some roomies.

But I love traveling and seeing places to take photos :) nature is so beautiful and it make me feel alive.

What drove you to become a digital artist?
I wanted to mix traditional art and digital art, was 14 when my brother introduced me to Photoshop and showed me how to use filters; hilarious right. Then I started learning slowly, after a year or around that age (I don’t recall so well) some friends got me a Wacom, then I kept developing,  till 2007 I worked with a Sony w-7 which is really bad.

How do you promote/sell/showcase your work?
Online. I was promoting more lately but I stopped a bit, this been a sorta bad/good year. MySpace gave me most exhibitions opportunities so it’s great for networking. I first started at Deviantart, then GFXArtist, after sometime I quit both and went CGSociety and MySpace, etc. Now I use mainly MySpace and Facebook and rarely post my art anywhere online, I made a private blog for friends and few devoted appreciators of my art so whenever I do photos or new art that is *always* where I post first. :) so they get to see it right away when it’s done, while the others only get to see if after some months.

I run CreativeStem, I’m part of the staff, we are still small and trying to get out there and will be launching a new version of it soon. (it’s a art community). and am part of raster art group :)

What’s your way(s) to balancing work and life?
Complicated question… I’m not very good at balancing things but I am trying. but when I have free hours I usually use to work on my art but with studies now is kinda hard.

A great digital artist is…..
Very hard question… lol , I guess I’d say it is someone who can speak out their art in the way they want to and for it to be representative and have a deeper meaning (but this for all artists). in terms of techniques, I’d say someone who is really good at the media they chose like 3d or digital painting etc , having quality, technique, strong concepts.

Who is an artist that you look up to? Why so?
Uhm… there is many… but I’d say Christian Dubreuil, better known as Anko. We share a lot of similar ideas and values, and he’s been a main inspiration in the past months, we both aim for Yokai/Japanese mythology in our own way. But I’d say for other artists also Meredith Morris, Fuyuko Matsui, Romain Slocombe, William Bouguereau. Those and many others always very present for me.

What music are you listening lately?
I listen to a lot of electronica or classical. Goes from Air, Royksopp, Pnau, Melee Beats, The Cure, M83, Susumu Hirasawa, Lyua Dust, Joy Division to Morte Macabre, Vangelis and Joe Hisaishi.

Name 3 your favorite art books.
Fuyuko Matsui. Tokyo Blue. Pink Attitude.

What do you like the smell of?
When I lived in Viseu, in the summer mainly, when I’d put clothes outside to dry I’d like the smell of it. it smelled like fresh, new, nostalgic. I like the smell I get when I shower (lol now this one was weird I’m sure).

If you have online portfolio (website/awards/credits/client’s showcase), what is the URL?
http://arisuart.com for all info you need about me; or *almost all*, and for portfolio I have http://arisuart.com/portfolio and http://arisuart.com/photos but both need to be updated with recent art and with better photos. you can go to these 2 websites if you click in the cats in the beginning of my website.
