about: KIMBERLEY JOANNE SINCLAIR
I’m 17, shy yet very determined. When I was younger I never really had a life ambition although recently photos have become one of my main priorities. There isn’t much more to me than that.
Where are you located?
West Midlands, England.
A great photographer is…..
Someone who strives for personal satisfaction even if they’re not the most talented of photographers.
What drove you to become a photographer?
I’ve always been quite a creative person, I’m shy in real life so I express myself through photos & drawings. There’s just something about the feeling of satisfaction I get when I look at a finished photo & think “I created that”.
Tell us about your unique style and the creative process behind it?
Although I’ve never been taught about photography or editing I feel I’ve improved considerably through trial & error. With photos being my number one hobby, my second is manipulations.
I first started taking photos on my phone camera when I was about 15 then my interest in photography just grew from there, a few years on I now have my own little setup. I’m not sure if this is really unique but I take all my photos in my cramped bedroom with unfortunately no assistance from anyone. It takes me about five minutes to set everything up & I’ve got this box full of ‘props’ to use in photos. Even though this is just a hobby for me I do try to push my boundaries by experimenting with new ideas, sometimes I note ideas down on paper then expand on those.
If you were not a photographer, what would be the alternative career path you choose?
I don’t really class myself as a photographer at the moment although one day I would like to become a professional portrait photographer. If that fails I would like to either be a graphic designer or draw portraits.
How do you promote yourself?
I use online sites, mainly DeviantArt.
What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
Personally I think the internet is a great tool for expanding your audience by allowing you to contact people all over the world which, for me, wouldn’t be possible without the internet.
Could you share any insight for people just entering the profession?
I would say investing in an ‘amateur’ SLR camera is well worth it as I’ve found my photos have really improved since purchasing my Canon 400D. If they’re interested in portraits I would recommend getting a friend to model for them, from personal experience it’s a bit of a hassle constantly taking self-portraits. Other than that just be creative & have fun learning.
Who is the person that you look up to in the professional world? Why so?
I don’t really have a vast majority of names of people who have caught my attention in the photography world, then again I’m very forgetful. It’s people like Lara Jade who inspire me because she’s so young, extremely talented & already made a name for herself.
What music are you listening lately?
I listen to nearly all genres of music but lately I’ve been listening to drum & bass or just anything upbeat.
Name 3 your favorite books.
This probably sounds quite bad but books have never interested me.
What do you like the smell of?
There are many things but one which comes to mind is freshly cut grass, maybe not the best for me as I have hayfever!
