Tell us about Pretty Monkey Studio (PMS) and what is the company doing exactly?
We are a young Team of Illustrators from Berlin. Our idea behind PMS is to create fan videos for the web video platforms, with illustrations, animations, computergames, movies and all the other visual input of our lives, woven together in an interesting music video mesh.

We decided to focus on mainstream pop music this year, so as to reach as many people as possible. All our videos are unusual visual combination and hopefully refreshing in a way that you normally dont expect from music videos.

We are 3 people and sometimes cooperate with other creative chimps

Where are you located?
Berlin, Germany.

Describe how does PMS feel at the starting of a new project?
We always feel excited starting a new video. As we work very intuitively, we often surprise ourselves with strange ideas or crazy image/sound combination. That is a good feeling.

How did the team was formed (meet) originally?
We all studied together at the University of Arts in Berlin and went to the illustration class together.

Where does PMS get inspiration from?
Our huge library of comics, computer games, movies and the Internet of course. To name a few:

Stephanie: Everything by Chris Ware, Charles Burns, Daniel Clowes,  Cronenberg movies, Monty Python, The Mighty Boosh

Could you share any insight for people (or group) just entering the profession?
A healthy combination of hard work and love for what you are doing is always the best foundation. Also if you are going to work at the computer for long hours, go outside often and play lots of basketball.

Who is the person PMS look up to in the movie industry? Why so?
David O’Reilly, because he’s a genius, Michel Gondry, because we like his visual ideas, Studio 4°C because they are nuts and have a great style and Charly Kaufman, because of his crazy beautiful screenplays.

How does PMS overcome creative block?
Watch what other illustrators and animators are doing and get inspired by all the great Artwork out there. Also playing basketball helps a lot.

What’s one thing PMS wishes it knew when beginning its career?
How much work it actually is haha.

How does PMS see yourself 5 years from now?
Hopefully illustrating and animating until they nail shut our coffins. We want to connect with other artists and do more collaborations. Also we are trying to involve the fans in the video creation. We have a great new web platform for that, wich we will announce soon.

We are working on a redesign for our website and will make it more accessible very soon.
