Pirate Cashoo

Pirate_Cashoo_interview

Your Full Name
Cachet Whitman, but Pirate Cashoo is preferred

Tell us about you
I am an extremely introverted eighteen year-old girl with next to no social life (and loving every second of it). I live and breathe artwork. I have an undying hunger to create and attempt to bring new things to the table. I despise redundancy and I crave uniqueness and originality. I adore blindingly bright colors and violence/chaos.

Pirate_Cashoo_photoIf you have a bachelor degree/education background; what is it?
Just a basic high school education so far. I’m in my first year of college at the moment.

Where are you located?
Colorado Springs, Colorado. However, my heart belongs to the California Bay Area.

What do you do when you are not producing artwork?
I don’t really do anything else…perhaps video games, I guess.

What drove you to become an illustrator?
My passion to create new things. Honestly, I’m not exactly sure.

It’s just something I’ve always done and enjoyed doing. I love taking concepts and ideas and bringing them to life.

How do you promote/sell/showcase your work?
Through various websites, and sometimes conventions, if I can.

Do you work better at night or in the morning? Why?
At night…perhaps because I am most awake at that time, and I love it when it’s dark. It just sets me in the right mood to draw!

What is your strength as an illustrator compared to others in the industry?
I spend a ton of effort trying to capture the essence and the mood of the environment and the characters’ personalities. I feel that a lot of other artists glaze over that. In addition, I feel that even the tiniest details are crucial to expressing an illustration’s story. A simple placement of fingers can change everything.

Who is an illustrator that you look up to? Why so?
There are artists whose work I enjoy looking at, but honestly there is no one I look up to. I’m not really sure why, I never really thought about it. However, I find it distracting to have art “idols.” I want to focus on myself.

What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
I think it’s an incredible benefit to growing and aspiring artists. Visual communication is much easier to create. It also helps artists make money and gain experience, which is very helpful for future careers.

If you can only draw one object for the rest of your life, what object would that be? Why?
I would have to say a skull. I really love facial bone structure, and I find skulls/skeletons physically attractive, so that would probably be why!

How does the global economic recession affecting the industry, or the least affecting your business/ work?
I don’t have a clue about the industry in general, but it hasn’t really affected my business that much.

Name 3 of your favorite (art) books/ magazines.
I don’t read any.

What do you like the sound of? Why so?
The random, loud, harsh slamming of the keys on a piano. I’m not sure why. It’s chaotic, crazy, odd… And I love that.
