about: CHRISTINE MEINTJES
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer, based in the Cape Town area in South Africa. I studied Graphic design at the Stellenbosch University, but later decided that photography was where my heart was at. I love my job! I totally believe in the quote: “If you love what you do you wouldn’t work a day in your life!”
I specifically love detail, beautiful things and traveling!

Describe how do you feel at the starting of a new project?
I love to plan things form the start and to know what I’m in for. I’m excited about all new projects, I’m not someone that wants to work on one project for ages, thats why photography is so great. It’s a quick medium and you instantly see the results.
If you are not an photographer, what alternative career path you might choose?
I probably would have loved to become a magazine editor. I love to stay on top with all the latest trends and that would probably have been a fun job 
What’s your way(s) to balancing work and life?
I work form home and that’s not always an easy task, cause my office is right here. But for the past few months I’ve been trying to stop working at 5 so that I can visit the gym and that helps in keeping a balance

Could you share any insight for people just entering the profession?
You need to have lots and lots of passion and motivation as well as hard work. My dad always says there is nothing like a free lunch. Here and there we strike a bit of luck, but most success is achieved with hard work. So my advice would be, never loose your passion! And remember, what you sow is what you’ll reap!
How do you overcome creative block?
I once felt like I was so uncreative, I didn’t know what to do, but then I realized that I was over worked and just to tired! Since then I’ve brought in more balance in my life, such as taking at least one off weekend in a month. By doing that I hope I wouldn’t reach the “creative block” again
Where do you get your ideas/inspiration most of the time?
Everything around me! Small things, the things normal people miss to see.
What music are you listening lately?
I love John Mayer, but mostly I listen to the radio, in that way I at least get to hear what’s going on in the world!
What’s one thing you wish you knew when beginning your career?
I wish I could do accounting and I wish I understood more business terms, but luckily you learn as you go
