Jeannie Ann Numos

interview

Your Full Name
Jeannie Ann Numos

Tell us about you.
I’m nineteen year old dilettante, specializing on Digital Art particularly Photo-Manipulation. Although I’m studying Political Science, I pursue digital art as a serious hobby. Art has always been a significant aspect of my existence. I can define myself as a neurotic who continually cures herself with art. I love nothing more than escaping into my own dream world. Art is my way to communicate and express myself or tell a story.

AVATARWhen was the first time you fell in love with the digital art world? And why?
I began digital art one year ago. I first fell in love with photography but because I don’t have a decent camera such as digital SLR, I decided to learn digital art. When I do digital art, I can fully express my self and what my subconscious is trying to convey. Nothing is impossible in digital art world and that’s what I love about it.

Where are you now?
San Fernando City, a small town in La Union, Philippines

What makes your works stand-out or different from other digital artist?
It’s hard to say. Every artist has unique way to express themselves and I guess what makes me distinctive is: I do various themes of Photo-Manipulation such as conceptual, emotional, dark, landscape and the likes.

What motivates you?
Everything around me. I see creativity in places that seem hidden and undecipherable to others. When I produce something genuine that people can appreciate (even if few) I think it is the most empowering feeling and satisfies my creative urge.

How does working professionally differ from being an amateur in your opinion?
Amateurs make art that they enjoy, whenever they feel like it. They may take art lessons, but they have no commitment to professionally in developing their skills. They simply want to create, without turning it into work. Being a professional artist, you must love doing what you do so much that you are willing to do it almost all of the time. You must be prepared to use you energy and money to make a living from your art. You’ll also need to develop a unique style and constantly develop your body of work.

Prima-Ballerina

If you could meet w/ any artist (one) past or present, whom would it be?
Salvador Dali with his weird distorted realities of the surrealist movement.

Who (or what) is your biggest influence?
Feelings, Music and People I love are my greatest inspiration. I’m also inspired by my dreams, I yearn to see something that is in my mind but made into reality. Sometimes it’s incredibly simple but sometimes the ideas are so complex that they have to wait for their turn.

What is your life motto?
Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Tell us several good online resources for digital artist you recommend visiting?
deviantART, Flickr and Redbubble.

Mystery-of-Man

Do you have a style that you relate to the most?
There are too many art styles that I seriously love but Vintage style makes me really head over heels in love.

Can you offer any advice on how to build-up a portfolio / ‘getting your foot in the door’ for our readers wishing to start a career in this line of digital artist ?
All I can say is enjoy what you do. There’s no need to rush things to learn. Savor each moment in doing what you want. And whatever you do, you should always give your best shot.

Do you have anyone/company you would like to collaborate/work together?
Not that I can think of.

What are the digital artist equipment(s) do you currently own?
I would like to own a graphic tablet but it doesn’t matter anymore. I currently use the magic of mouse and wonders of Photoshop.

Name 3 softwares that you use the most, and tell us the function of each them.
I mainly use Adobe Photoshop CS 5 where I do almost everything in there. I also use Adobe Lightroom 3 for enhancing the sharpness, color balance and lighting.
