Mario_Wibisono_interview

Your Full Name
Mario Wibisono

Tell us about you
Some may have known me by many female artworks that I’ve done. It has always been my main interest to draw the beauty of females.

In your opinion, what would be the secret ingredients to become a great digital artist?
Tons of hard works, a portion of ambition to present the best, a lot of practices, honing your skill and never stop learning, also pretty much sleep less.

Mario_Wibisono_photoWhere are you located?
Jakarta, Indonesia

What would be your most rewarding experience becoming a digital artist so far?
Well, to have other people to like my artwork is a very pleasant reward. Also I’m very lucky to have the honor where some of my works used as the cover of international books and magazines such as EXOTIQUE and ImagineFX.

Where do you get inspirations from?
Strength and beauty of females : )

How do you promote/ sell/ showcase your work?
I believe there are many ways to promote your artwork. The first one is to showcase your portfolio, you can do this in art community websites such as DeviantArt or CGSociety. Another excellent way is to submit your artworks to be showcased in digital art book or magazine such as EXPOSE, EXOTIQUE, ImagineFX, Digital Art and much more.

Do you work better at night or in the morning? Why?
Night, less disturbance and distraction.

What is your strength as a digital artist compared to others in the industry?
Many people can make good paintings, but not many artists have expertise. I believe each artist should have at least a mastery of one expertise, a subject where they can give the best of their skill. As for me, I have been focusing my expertise in drawing the strength and beauty of female characters.

Who is a digital artist that you look up to? Why so?
Definitely the grandmaster of fantasy female art, Luis Royo. His paintings are just the best that I’ve ever seen, how he draws the expression, details, and the way he represents the beauty and strength of females in the fantasy world are very impressive.

Describe a difficult work / project situation and how would you overcome it?
Sometimes I can be a detail freak and made myself caught in a situation where I need to draw a dreadful amount of details; this usually force me to spend a lot more time than what I’ve scheduled to get the best result.

What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting our lifestyle?
Internet is one of the most important aspects of my lifestyle. I learn about digital painting from the internet and I make my earnings from the internet too.

If you could turn back time, how would you do things differently?
I would learn digital painting from a younger age, hopefully from age of 10, so by the time I reach my age now, I would have much better skill and experience.

How does the global economic recession affecting the industry, or the least affecting your business/ work?
I’m not sure if it really affect that much, but in smaller scale I would say, it does affect the value of a commission fee or an artwork.

Name 3 of your favorite (art) books/ magazines.
EXOTIQUE, EXPOSE, Imagine FX.

If you are using any software in producing your work, what are those? Do they make your work easier? How so?
I use Photoshop, it’s the perfect painting tool for me.
