Chitchat: Victoria Price
Your Full Name
Victoria Price (aka Victra)
Tell us about you.
I’m a Freelance Illustrator and Pin-Up artist with a passion for the female figure.
When was the first time you fell in love with the illustration world? And why?
I think I was about 12 , I had a great love for art and creating it prior to this, but when I got a hold of the internet I started expanding out some. For a while it was through Deviant art, there are plenty of talented, inspiring artists there. In college it grew tenfold I immersed myself in a lot of art books of American Illustrators like Alphonse Mucha , Gil Elvgren , J.C Leyendecker , Vargas and then some comic artists Adam Hughes and J.Scott Campbell.
Where are you now?
I reside in New Jersey currently.
What makes your works stand-out or different from other illustrators?
I think I tend to portray a sensual-ness and innocent life to a lot of my illustrations, especially my pin-ups. I have a lot of people asking about the pink noses (or red noses) Some people seem to dislike them and some just really enjoy it. I tend to blush the face a little, not too much, but enough to give you this soft ,sweet feel I’m speaking of. It’s something very beautiful to me.
What motivates you?
Knowing that I can always push myself to do and be better. I always feel no matter how good you are there is always room for improvement. It also helps to look at other artist’s work that you are crazy about, they can be inspiring and make you feel insignificant in this immensely talented world. That usually helps me too. Competition and working hard to be your very best!

How does working professionally differ from being an amateur in your opinion?
As a professional I feel you appreciate yourself as an artist more and take yourself seriously. You won’t accept every little job and you won’t work for nothing. You have the talent and skills to back yourself and your artwork up. An Amateur artist just isn’t ready for the world. An Amateur’s will most likely doop themselves over by working for very little pay, which gives all artists a bad name. It makes non-artists think “oh it’s just art, not a real job, why should I have to pay over 50 dollars for a piece of art?”
This is probably one of the most terrible things I have had to deal with every day of being a professional artist. Trying to express that Art is a job, Professional artists are worth the money and if everyday people would open their eyes they would see art is everywhere you look and they are most likely not accepting 50 dollars for it. Haha.
If you could meet w/ any artist (one) past or present, whom would it be?
Probably Alphonse Mucha, I would love to pick that man’s brain, his work is so modern. Mucha was way after his own time. To me he has the most intricate, brilliant and gorgeous pieces I have ever seen. I really enjoyed the Art Nouveau movement and to me he was the King of it!

Who (or what) is your biggest influence?
I would have to say my father , If it wasn’t for him I don’t think I would have pushed myself as hard as I have . He was always a very hard-working person, but had a great appreciation for beauty and the arts. He was very encouraging and always looked forward to what I had to show him next, but unlike any father he would also critique my work and tell me I could do better..and I did every day. I wish he could see me now!
What is your life moto?
Draw every day. Never stop drawing and never give up.
Tell us several good online resources for illustrator you recommend visiting?
Conceptart.org, Cghub.com, Deviantart.com
Do you have a style that you relate to the most?
I guess “cheesecake” Since I do a lot of pin-up work.
Can you offer any advice on how to build-up a portfolio / ‘getting your foot in the door’ for our readers wishing to start a career in this line of illustrating business?
Fill your portfolio with only your best work, make sure when you are submitting a portfolio that your work pertains to that company or job you are going for. Submit your work everywhere! In this day and age I am extremely thankful for the internet since this is personally where I get most of my work. It is a very vast resource for artists and a great big pool of work that awaits you.
Name 3 of your favorite (art) books/ magazines.
Spectrum, Imagine FX, Juxtapose
Do you have anyone/company you would like to collaborate/work together?
If I could collaborate or work on something with Adam Hughes DC comic cover and pin up artist ,that’d be a dream!
What are the illustrator equipment(s) do you currently own?
I usually work all in photoshop ,with my Intuous 3 tablet but I tend to every now and then go back to traditional and work in pencil, just regular mechanical pencils and a few other mediums like acrylics and oils.
Name 3 softwares (or tools) that you use the most, and tell us the function of each of them.
I mostly use Photoshop , currently Photoshop CS5 . For a long time I used Photoshop 5.5 because of the airbrush setting , no other photoshop had it , but Photoshop CS5 works pretty well. I had to upgrade sometime and set aside my stubborn ways haha.
If you have online portfolio, what is the URL?
My website is currently going construction, but for the future it is www.Victra-art.com and if you’d like to be regularly updated on progress of works you can add my fan page http://www.facebook.com/VictraIllustration
