Tell us about you.

I’m a jean and pullover crafting girl. Not easy going at all, pretty complicated and I’m not a party freak. I love museums, talking about politics, climate change and art. We could say I’m an intellectual crafter :D

If you have a bachelor degree/education background; what is it?
I’m an architect.

stephanie_kilgastWhere are you located?
I live near Paris right now, but would like to move to the region of the Bretagne, in the West of France.

What do you do when you are not producing artwork?
I like cooking, swimming and bicycling. I’m also a real bookworm, I often read several books in the different languages I speak (German, French and English). I also love painting, but I don’t allow myself enough time for that passion.

What drove you to become a sculptor?
I always have been driven to art in general. I used to draw a lot as a child. I also did some miniature food out of regular sticky clay for my barbies at the time. Later I beaded many different jewelry and little animals. I learned to knit and I started to paint with 16. I discovered the world of miniature food in 2007 and I just got hooked. Now I would also like to try my hand on pottery and on art dolls.

How do you promote/sell/showcase your work?
I shout about it on many different internet places, flickr, facebook, deviantArt, my blog, my website, twitter, forums, …

What’s your way(s) to balancing work and life?
I work when I want and when I have the inspiration, when I’m tired and can’t invent something new or sculpt I just do what life’s require (cleaning, going out, sport). In the evening I mostly spend time with my boyfriend as well. It’s not very regulated, more a spontaneous way of living.

A great sculptor is…..
Someone who is able to improve his art on a daily basis. By improving I mean getting better and having new ideas.

Who is a sculptor that you look up to? Why so?
There are many sculptors I look up to! In the miniature food world: Kiva Atkinson, Betsy Niederer, Emmaflam and Miniman, Linda Cummings. In the world of art dolls and animals, Kerry Pajutee, Aleah Klay, Michell Bradshaw, Nicole West.

What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
Visual communication is probably the most important thing on the internet. People hate ugly websites, and so do I. Internet is quick so a website has to be easy of use. But if you’re doing great photos and are able to make nice looking website, then Internet is the most powerful tool to get known and sell your artwork. I wouldn’t be here as a miniature sculptor without it.

What music are you listening lately?
Lately I’m pretty fond of the Black Ghosts. In general I really love OST, classical music, rock and Cape Verdean Music, like BAU. I’m pretty eclectic, I just don’t like country, rap and hard core.

Name 3 your favorite art books.
I own many art books of artists I love, like Kandinsky (painter), Caspar David Friedrich (painter) and Alavar Aalto (architect). I also own the encyclopedy of Architecture, the Phaidon Atlas, which is a magnificent book!

What do you like the smell of?
Vanilla, because it reminds me of cakes and sweet things, I think it’s a very comfortable and cosy smell. I like the smell of wet soil, after the raining, because it smells clean, fresh and free. And I also like the smell of morning air, because it’s cold and clean. I love to open my window in the morning.

If you have online portfolio (website/awards/credits/client’s showcase), what is the URL?
