Currently I have a studio near Amsterdam in the Netherlands after having lived and studied photography in Barcelona, Spain. I started my career in 1990 and work on assignment for leading international magazines and agencies. I am specialized in portrait and food photography for editorial and commercial clients, but I get booked for architecture, travel and advertising too.

Describe how do you feel at the starting of a new project?
Each new project is a new adventure, that makes me feel very focused and committed at the same time..Of course you build on your experience and previous work, but there are so many variables in a shooting, that make it different and exiting each time.
If you were not an photographer, what alternative career path you might choose?
Difficult to imagine, but I was going for medic before getting into photography. Film-maker might have been an alternative.
What’s your way(s) to balancing work and life?
My children, 4 and 6 years old, are the best for balancing. They get my feed on the ground and help me putting things into perspective. Hiking in the mountains is great too.

Could you share any insight for people just entering the profession?
Find a theme that you love or that really touches you and explore it to the end. Don’t hit the button before the image is in your head.
How do you overcome creative block?
Working.
Where do you get your ideas/inspiration most of the time?
Sometimes I use the camera like a note book. Being on an assignment I might find an interesting location or idea which is not appropriate for the actual project, but might be interesting to develop in the future. Chatting with people can be inspiring too.
What music are you listening lately?
Chambao, Spanish Flamenco fusion.
What’s one thing you wish you knew when beginning your career?
Better marketing and selling techniques. It may become as or more important than photography itself.
