Chitchat: Henri Juhani Käck
Your Full Name
Henri Juhani Käck and yes I know that if you write my last name like Americans do, Kack it means poo in German. Haha, funny stuff.
Tell us about you
I am a electrician from Finland. I’m 21 years old and I’m studying photography. I was born in town called Varkaus and i recently moved to Jyväskylä. I love music, especially metal. I’m currently extremely tired because I was out last night till 4 am. Which is unusual for me.

In your opinion, what would be the secret ingredients to become a great photographer?
I think you must be dedicated and practice a lot if you want to be great photographer. Trying to get there…
Where are you located?
Here
What would be your most rewarding experience becoming a photographer so far?
When I got in front of 50000 people to take photographs from Metallica in Sonisphere, Finland 2009. It was incredible. When the Ecstasy of Gold started playing I nearly started crying.
Where do you get inspirations from?
Music that the bands play. When I’m shooting them live, I obviously listen their music and during the postprosessing also. I usually listen that bands music that photos I’m editing.

How do you promote/ sell/ showcase your work?
In world wide web. In DeviantART, Flickr!, 1x and so on.
Define the word “beauty”
It’s something that you love to behold and that you wont get bored of. Really hard to explain.
What types of assignment/ project are you attracted the most? Why so?
Project that you get free hand to do what you want. No one is pressuring you. That is when the best photos are made.
Who is a photographer that you look up to? Why so?
Finnish guy called Kalle Björklid (http://www.bjorklid.net/), Joey Lawrence (http://www.joeyl.com/) and Ross Halfin (http://www.rosshalfin.com). Kalle was the man whose photos made me buy my own camera and start taking band/concert photos, he’s photos are really incredible. I have taken a lot of influence from he’s photos. JoeyL is a young guy like me and he travels the world taking awesome photos. I’m jealous of him. And of course Ross Halfin. He’s the man!

Describe a difficult work/ project situation and how would you overcome it?
I’m a sort of perfectionist and if some photos does not please my eye I wont release them even if they are great by everyone elses standards. I am working on that problem.
What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
The internet is great. When you take a great picture you just click you mouse couple of times and it’s there for the the whole world to see and you can get comments from photographers all around the world. All thought recently I have had some problems with people stealing my photos. But that’s a small problem.
If you could turn back time, how would you do things differently?
Started when I was younger and practice more.

How does the global economic recession affecting the industry, or the least affecting your business/ work?
Of course it effects, but not in my “business” because this is still a hobby to me.
Name 3 of your favorite (art) books/ magazines
1) Ross Halfin: Metallica
2) Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life 1990-2005
3) The moment in Clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world’s top shooters By Joe McNally.
What is your life motto?
Jokuroti! And I have no idea how I would translate that to English.

What does “photography” mean to you?
Well this is the question that I thought long and hard. I even posted this question to my facebook status. I would answer that it’s catching moments in time but that so cliche thing to say that I wont. When I hear word Photography in makes me feel excited because I’m such a geek about everything that is a part of this genre. So, what it means to me? A dear dear hobby that i hope to me my career.
What do you like the sound of? Why so?
The sound of music and shutter sound. Not so much Canons (I shoot with Canon) “hundred series” (400D, 450D..) but the pro and semipro cameras (5DmkII, 1DmkIII) shutter sounds. It’s hard to tell why, I just love it.
