A great photographer is…..
A great photographer is a master of the camera who is able to convey their art. A great photographer cares not about fortune nor fame, but rather cares about their aesthetic and its relevance to their world.
What drove you to become a photographer/ conceptual artist?
As a child I was fascinated by stories and the world of fantasy. Inspired by beautiful dresses and the ability to express oneself. I used to draw and paint, and fell in love with photography when I was introduced to it by my teacher at school.
Tell us about your unique photography/artistic style and the creative process behind it?
I organise nearly everything in my photo shoots. An idea, feeling, sometimes even a picture comes to mind that initiates my creative process. I plan everything from the location, the clothing, the model, idea, concept. I experiment with both film and digital, however I have to say nothing beats the beauty of film.
If you were not a photographer/ conceptual artist, what would be the alternative career path you choose?
If I couldn’t photograph, I would paint and draw my vision.
How do you promote yourself?
I upload my work on my website that helps market my photography online. I am also a part of the flickr and deviantart community.
What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting the visual communication business?
I think the internet is an amazing tool to gain exposure and to be exposed to other talented artists. I believe it opens pathways for new uprising artists.
Could you share any insight for people just entering the profession?
For those who want to be photographers, do it not for the money, or popularity – don’t be affected by how many comments you receive. Rather, do it for yourself. Capture the world you live in – your ideas, fantasies, surroundings.
Who is the person that you look up to in the professional world? Why so?
I look up to great photographers who inspire my work. I love the magic of Paolo Roversi and Tim Walker. I love the classic elegance of Richard Avedon. I am also inspired by the lighting and drama in Caravaggio’s paintings.
What music are you listening lately?
At the moment I am listening to a variety of different music. I love Lily Allen and Lenka for a laid back chilled out day. I love acoustics and classic piano on more quiet days. A bit of jazz on other days. My favourite song at the moment is Inside by Bang Gang.
