Sparkling Creativity

sparkling_creativity_article
How do we stimulate creativity to get great ideas?
This is probably the million dollar question for all human being; perhaps not. But at least, professionals involved in the so-called creative industry would agree with me.

The answer to that is simple really. Just like any part of your body organs, your brain becomes stronger and more functional if it is well trained. In order to grow creatively you need to   step outside your comfort zone. We need to exercise our brain’s neuron by engaging in some new activity, place or event. When you stretch your mind, it never returns to its previous shape.

Creative individuals are always on the look-out for new experiences, stretching limits, making new connections and see things in new ways. Any activities involving those quality enhances their creative output and enriches their resources from which to draw inspiration, and action to influence.

Let’s take a look at the following words’ meaning from Dictionary.com:

Idea (noun) – any conception existing in the mind as a result of mental understanding, awareness, or activity.

Creativity (noun) – the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination.

Mind (noun) – the element, part, substance, or process that reasons, thinks, feels, wills, perceives, and judges.

Exercise (noun) – bodily or mental exertion, esp. for the sake of training or improvement of health.

Neurobics (Neuron + Aerobics) is probably the popular term used to promote mind exercises, which was first created by James Robert Watson, PhD (Copyright: 1990). Neurobics encourages creative-wannabes to experience life with open palms, not clenched fists.

What exercising your mind can do?

  • Enrich your source of inspiration
  • Increase appreciation on diversity
  • Stimulate growth and expand creative limitation
  • Spice things up and have a blast
  • Encourage participation and involvement
  • Break fear barriers and promote innovations

Below is a list of mind stretching activities you can do:

  • Quit smoking
  • Don’t bring a cell phone for a day/s
  • Try a different route while driving
  • Visit museums and exhibitions
  • No social networking for a full week
  • Solve crossword puzzles/sudoku/play chess
  • Ordering different meals
  • and the list goes on…
