Tell us about you.
I have always had a pencil in my hand since I have got memory but I have never believed to become an artist in a professional way. I have decided to follow my artistic inspiration only recently.I have been a TOUR GUIDE for Italian people for several years. I have been so lucky and I feel blessed that I have been able to travel around the world.I have seen many beautiful countries and met wonderful people, but only when I have started to work in some animation studios in Italy I have finally felt at “home”!
What are the most important things to you about being an anime artist ? Is it the pay, feelings of self-worth, etc.?
I have been watching anime since I was an child and then Japanese animation accompanied me during my teenager’s growth.Drawing Anime is like allowing my inner child to stay forever young. I hope to share this same feeling with all my fellow anime lovers.
Where are you located?
My house is in Rome, but I have recently moved to Northampton (UK).
What efforts have you made at “networking” to advance your career?
Since I have opened my gallery on DA my drawings started to be appear in many blogs or forums.I have been asked to do interviews and I have been featured in various occasions. I simply did not expect to receive so many attentions and I always feel unprepared. The most difficult “effort” for me was and still is the fact that some people have this nasty habit to reproduce your drawings and put their mark on them or use your works without permission to gain money. This kind of people reassure their conscience by saying that if you put your works on the “WEB” you instantly give your permission to USE it for FREE.This concept is terribly wrong. It is very difficult to avoid it when “networking”, but if you need to advance in your career you cannot avoid to be on the “WEB”.
Where do you get inspirations from?
It is a mix of several influences I believe. There are so many sources of inspiration in life and visiting other’ s people galleries shake up my imagination all the time.
Do you promote/ sell/ showcase your work? If so, how?
I promote myself by means of demo reels and galleries on cg and art forums.
Where do you see your profession going in the next five to ten years?
I hope to be a better drawer and to be able to improve my technical skills. The idea of learning how to make classic animation tickles me too.
What types of assignment/ project are you attracted the most? Why so?
I simply love creating or coloring props, characters or backgrounds during the pre production stage of 2D or 3D animation movie. Being part of a team of artists working all together for a final product strenghten your skills significantly. I also managed to work in the texture’s departments for a 3D animation film and i really enjoyed this experience!
Who do you consider to be your professional role model? Why do you consider this person to be so special?
I admire a lot of great professional artists, but I do not take anyone as role model.
Please explain the worst work experience you had in the past five years?
Every time I have to fight to be paid when doing any artistic jobs ( especially when dealing with Italian’s clients) is the most painful experience I have to face.
What do you think about the Internet and how it is affecting our lifestyle?
Human are meant to be social beings who need to communicate and Internet could be a wonderful tool for pursuing this goal, but sometimes I feel the new generation is forgetting how to deal with people in flesh and bones.
Where do you see the industry going?
It is difficult to tell, sometime I believe everything has been told, written, drawn or played, but human imagination always finds a new and uncharted path to follow. I’ll be watching with admiration wherever the industry will go!
What are you doing to stay on top of these changes and how do you keep your work fresh?
I try to take inspiration from the artists I admire and express it in my own way. I find very useful to attend some digital painting workshops or buy books that explain the most recent techniques used by artist.
